Somehow, Altus is limited to those with a Google account, as it uses the Google API to provide it access to the WhatsApp platform. However, users are more than welcome to sign up for an Altus account and then transfer their data to a Google account if needed.
Usability
If users were to think that they could use an app like this on their desktop, they would be in for a big surprise, as it isn’t as intuitive as one might first expect, especially in a situation where users would be trying to run multiple instances at the same time.
The first thing they would notice is the fact that the app lets them run multiple accounts, and by default it does everything to show it. Now that may seem a good thing, but the downside lies in the fact that it seems as if WhatsApp is placing a premium on user experience over features. To a user, this would only show that the app has far less features than it could have. In fact, users may find that the app is quite unintuitive because it shows only the WhatsApp app without offering any explanation of how it works. All it shows is the “Run” button, which really isn’t very helpful to new users.
There is also an option to remove the tray icon, but some users may find it unnecessary. In any case, the “Run” button is a pretty poor choice for providing explanatory information, especially to new users.
Customization
While the Altus interface is quite attractive, it is also pretty basic. There are no customization options. Furthermore, there is no way to merge accounts that run on different devices or even to switch between accounts on a device that the app manages.
