OsiriX MD is an open source, cross platform application that provides the user with all the tools needed to successfully perform MD-related processing. [@bb0005] The interface that the user has to deal with is graphical, with some basic HTML elements that can be easily customized according to the users' needs, whereas the 3D rendering engine is fully implemented using OpenGL.
Fully detailed information about MD-related topics is provided within the manual. As mentioned before, this manual is made up of three parts, namely:•Part 1: a general description of OsiriX MD;•Part 2: a detailed description of the rendering engine and related issues, to understand the program and its features;•Part 3: a detailed description of all the features and functions available in OsiriX MD.
The features and functions explained in this section can be organized in three main groups:•basic features, meant for image acquisition and processing;•specific features, related to the rendering engine;•optional features, meant for postprocessing and visualization.
