Welcome to the EIS Newsletter, Issue No. 31!

I am sitting typing this newsletter with very sore feet as I recently completed the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze Award section of the qualification - 40/50km in a couple of days and then the camping and cooking etc. It is an arduous affair but a great character builder. Now, add another 20km on there and we are where the Silver Award is at. Laura Y11 and Lily Y10 will be hiking as we speak, I hope they are managing. I know they enjoyed the horse riding yesterday and coped with the overnight rain so fingers crossed.

This week I had the pleasure of visiting Y10's biology lesson headed by Mr. Scholtz. Those lessons are always historically excellent for me to see but this one was extra special. Mr. Scholtz was teaching the students about the heart and had brought in pig hearts as they closely emulate our very own. Mixed reactions from students were on display, from excitement to disgust to intense curiosity. The main reason some were unsettled was, apparently, the smell! The smell of iron was quite palpable, I must say. The students, under strict supervision, dissected the hearts with scalpels to see the inner workings of atriums, valves, artery/vein entries and exits and the tendons still attached to the muscular walls. I hope I have not put you off your food and especially when you see the photos! Well done all, a fascinating lesson.

Also, for the first time, we have had a student led Y3/Y4 Football Club at EIS. Well done to Yejun Y4 and Sharjil Y4, our football captains for that age group. They used cones provided by Ms. Anna to set up the pitch and do various drills and skills to improve the abilities of the cohort. At the end of the session, they finished with a match to put those skills into practice. Congratulations boys, a momentous occasion and very well delivered.

Finally, I was honoured to deliver a presentation to prospective parents and representatives from various embassies today about our great school as part of the EIS Opening Day. It is quite amazing how much we deliver and how extensive our accreditations are. With any look we will be welcoming some brilliant new students to the EIS family for 2024/25!
