I was very pleased to be invited to participate in the World Congress on Public Health. 
What I liked most was the welcome I received as a non-traditional speaker on the rule of law in advancing the right to health and creating equal opportunities for people everywhere to lead safe and healthy lives. This reflected an understanding of the need to break down silos and work across disciplines to address the health, economic , social, political and humanitarian dimensions of complex public health challenges, such as the COVID 19 pandemic. We all work with the most vulnerable in our societies and the pandemic has exposed and exacerbated inequalities in all countries, and shown the critical need for good governance and effective public institutions. 
 A major takeaway is the need for strong leadership that follows the science and the evidence but is also empathetic and listens to all stakeholders, especially youth. 
 IDLO looks forward to continuing to build interdisciplinary bridges between legal and public health professionals and to strengthening partnerships to build healthier, more resilient societies.
