YEAR 1
This week in English, we have been reading another knight and dragon story called The Knight and the Dragon. It is about a knight and dragon who are so bad at fighting each other that they decide to open a barbecue business instead! We have drawn pictures in answer to questions about the story and we have been writing sentences about the story. Some of us are getting quite confident at writing sentences by ourselves now! We also wrote a book review about the story. Finally we compared the knight and dragon story of this week with Knight School that we read last week to identify similarities and differences. 
In Maths we have been learning to count in 10s from 10 and from any other number. We have learned that we are adding 10 each time we move to the next multiple of 10 and if we count backwards in 10s, we are subtracting 10 each time. We can also write numbers sentences with +10 and -10 to demonstrate this. Some of us are also able to solve word problems about adding or subtracting 10. 
In Science we looked at powders. We identified that powders are solids. We named some powders and we watched what happened when these powders were added to water. 
In Topic, we continued learning about the location of castles. We have also learned about William the Conqueror, a man from France who invaded England and became King there for some years. Did you know that many castles still standing in the UK today were built by William? 
Finally, we have been listening to stories read by other teachers as part of Book Week. We particularly liked Ms Holly's story about a secret tree and we enjoyed making our own secret trees.
