Information To Support Course Choices

S3 into S4 Subject Choice
2 year Higher course choices are to be discussed with subject teacher and signed off by Mr Macmillan or Mr Jones. 2YH is available to choose for 3rd - 4th years who have studied that subject in S3. 2 year higher gives you a unique advantage to work on achieving a "premium" award, as well as exploring content that can support your exam answers in year 2.

Please note; if choosing 2YH, this is a 2 year qualification, if you leave at the end of 4th year you would be unable to achieve the full award and would receive the units you had completed (2 units in year 1, 1 unit, an assignment and exam in year 2)

S4 into S5 Subject Choice
Higher course choices are to be discussed with subject teacher and signed off by Mr Macmillan or Mr Jones. If crashing a Higher it would be beneficial to have obtained or working towards another social subject.

Please note; if already working on a 2YH, this is a 2 year qualification, if you leave at the end of 4th year you would be unable to achieve the full award and would receive the units you had completed (2 units in year 1, 1 unit, an assignment and exam in year 2)

S5 into S6 Subject Choice
Please read the notes on the AH course pages and discuss with subject teachers if unsure of course suitability, some courses are heavily weighted towards independent work (Geography is 70% portfolio). Most Advanced Highers in social subjects require you to write extended pieces of work, and have elements of continuous assessment, with deadlines for SQA pick up prior to the end of the year.
