Product configuration
Product configuration (product) is the process of defining the product to be produced by configuring and customizing the software. Configurations are stored in a product database and the content can be edited and shared with other users. Each product database is stored in a special XML file. The syntax for this file is XML Schema Document (XSD) and is based on the DTD (Document Type Definition). Configurations are handled by the Configurations Application Object in the Configurations application.
 User interface
AutoCAD has several views, that provide different types of information.
 2D
The two-dimensional view shows the current document in the center of the screen. There are two toolbars visible (left and right).  One toolbar is located along the bottom of the screen and contains additional tools and commands related to the current view. The right toolbar contains additional tools and commands that are specific to the currently selected layer and view.
Each tool bar contains "pull-down" menus and submenus.  A number of the tools and submenus can be customized. The user can also set the default options, such as the option to show or hide the tool bar. The "pull-down" menus and submenus can be customized for each tool or submenu.
The 3D view is located in a separate window that uses a perspective view to show the current model.
In addition to the two-dimensional view and the three-dimensional view, there is a third type of view, named the Section view, which shows the view of the document through layers. The Section view has several tools and commands that are specific to the Section view.

The three-dimensional view provides a view of the model as a collection of planes.  Each plane is either parallel or perpendicular to the Z-axis.  The three-dimensional view also provides different types of tools and commands that are specific to the three-dimensional view.
 3D Edit
The three-dimensional view can be edited in a number of different ways.  There are two separate tools for editing, a "Track" tool and a "Snap" tool. The Track tool maintains a mouse pointer on a line that the user drags through the model.  The Snap tool maintains a mouse pointer on the edge of a plane and allows the user to click anywhere on the plane.  There are several additional tools and commands that are specific to the Track and Snap tools.
