Which Backpack?

This is very personal and essential decision that you will have to make. If you invest wisely and treat it right, you will have this backpack for the rest of your life full of more adventures.

There are primarily two different backpack styles: Top loaders, and Front zippers.

Top loading backpacks are typically preferred by experienced hikers and light packers. Top loading backpacks are narrower and allow easy access to your essentials while you are wearing it. They also are more commonly produced, so there are more colours and designs available in this style of backpack. The downside to these backpacks is that you will have to unload all of your backpack's contents if you need access to something at the base of it.

Front zipping backpacks are my personal preference. These are harder to find and so your options can be limited, but the ease at which these function will make the neutral colour and design worth it. Think of these backpacks like a suitcase with straps, when placed down you zip off the front of the backpack and have clear access to all your backpacks contents. Due to their design they are often wider and not as compact. These backpacks, like top loaders as well, typically have external pockets that can carry small and essential items that you will have access to at all times.

Consider purchasing packing cubes to make your life just that much easier.

Another worthy purchase is a backpack protector bag, this is an outer shell that you place over your entire backpack when you are at the airport or transporting it without you. This bag tucks all the loose straps in so as not to get caught in any luggage carousel machines, prevents any accidental snags or tears, and overall maintains the longevity of your backpack.
