MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Twins left-hander Grant Balfour is expected to be available to start his first major league game in nearly a year when the team opens a three-game series against the White Sox on Friday night.
Balfour is making progress from his second Tommy John surgery. Balfour was still wearing a soft knee brace during batting practice Wednesday night. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Balfour should be ready to start within three or four days if his recovery goes as expected.
Balfour has been on the disabled list since the end of the 2014 season and hasn't pitched in a major league game since July 13, 2014. Gardenhire said Balfour "is going to be ready to start" Friday night.
