Literacy
 In literacy this week, children in Early Years began reading a book called "Jack and the Beanstalk," an English fairy tale. It appeared as "The Story of Jack Spriggins and the Enchanted Bean" in 1734 and as Benjamin Tabart's moralised "The History of Jack and the Bean-Stalk" in 1807. Henry Cole, publishing under pen name Felix Summerly, popularised the tale in The Home Treasury (1845), and Joseph Jacobs rewrote it in English Fairy Tales (1890). Jacobs' version is most commonly reprinted today and is believed to be closer to the oral versions than Tabart's because it lacks the moralising.
 Contextual Learning
 Children’s books like “Jack and the Beanstalk” expose young readers to a range of vocabulary words in a context that is easy to understand. When children see new words within the context of a story, they can infer their meanings through the surrounding text, illustrations, and the overall narrative. This contextual learning helps build a deeper understanding of vocabulary, enabling children to use the words correctly and apply them in their own writing and conversation.
Playing with Jolly Phonics
Ck – This week the children are learning to make the “ck” sound and reading words with “ck” sound in them. Examples include words like “flick,’ “pick,” “lick,” and “brick.”
 Mathematics Fun
In mathematics this week, the children shapes’ bingo.” In addition, in mathematics they began to learn to count to twenty, both forwards and backwards
Expressive Arts
 This week EYFS children produced a self-portrait collage based on the “t” sound in phonics. The children are planning to go on a “Tiger Hunt,” one similar to the “Bear Hunt” they went on a few weeks ago. This reinforces the work they do on their “Jolly Phonics’ learning programme.
