Assessment Fortnight
Assessment fortnight will begin on Monday 6th May and will run for 2 weeks. In this time, all children in Years 1-6 will undertake end of year assessments in reading, writing and maths. Please try to avoid non-essential absences in this period.
It is important that parents understand our school philosophy on assessments. Primary aged children are developing all of the time, including developing their sense of self as learners. While we want our children to do their best and show what they can do and understand, these tests are not high stakes. There is no pass or fail, no revision required and we do not put pressure on our children. The assessments are a chance for us to celebrate the learning journey and map out the next steps. They merely give insights into each child’s learning and helps our teachers know what they need to do next to help them develop their understanding.
The assessments help us as teachers make adjustments to our provisions and our analysis of the results will help give us targets which will support future learning.
Please do not feel anxious about the assessments – there is no need. Your child’s teacher already knows them well and these tests just give us insights and progress tracking information. I you have any concerns about your child’s learning, please speak to your child’s teacher.
All parents will receive a parent report of the Progress Test in English (PTE) and Progress Test in Maths (PTM) so you can see how your child perform ed on the day.
