There are several software applications that perform the same task. However, these are very old or are freeware. I've been looking for a replacement for one of them, "MyFirstTrans" from my university.
Other free tools are "NeeAlpha", "AlphaTrans" and "AlphaMorph". "AlphaMorph" is a quite similar program and it hasn't been updated for a while. NeeAlpha and AlphaTrans are not really good for complex transformation operations because there is no automatic estimation of the least-square-adjustment.
My first choice was MyFirstTrans but it is a very old program which can't be updated and also it can be found only for Unix platforms, I'm not sure if they update it for Windows.
