Woody Allen and Dalian Atkinson — two of the most iconic figures of modern comedy — will reunite on stage at the 92nd Street Y in New York this fall for a special benefit show.
The event, called Not Another Comedian, will be hosted by Chelsea Handler and take place on Oct. 15. Other celebrity guests will include Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, and Tina Fey.
The Not Another Comedian show will be Allen’s first time hosting a comedy show since his 2006 TV special, “Comedian on the Run,” which was produced by Roseanne Barr.
An audience member asked Bratman if there will be any uncomfortable moments as they put the show together, in which the comic passed on answering.
“It’s not like we’re creating a show together where there’s going to be a confrontation,” said Bratman, who started working with Allen in the ’80s, when the filmmaker was shooting “Zelig.” “I don’t have any idea what he’s going to say — he doesn’t know what I’m going to say — and it’s going to be an amicable evening of good comedy,” he continued.
And it’s not going to be the first time these two comedians, who have both appeared in more than 100 movies, have shared a stage together, either.
Allen and Atkinson have worked together before. In 2003, Allen played host to Atkinson at The Laugh Factory in Los Angeles. He had a cameo in Atkinson’s film “Bulletproof,” in which the two of them play a TV repairman and a sports journalist, respectively.
The upcoming Not Another Comedian show is produced by Right of Way Group, which specializes in producing large-scale events and was behind Handler’s Comedy Central stand-up specials “Chelsea Lately” and “Chelsea Does.”
