EYFS
Building puzzles has been quite popular with EYFS this week, with children getting much better at referring to the picture on the box, looking at colours and straight edges for the outside pieces. Children have also enjoyed making mini books about numbers, one less, their families… 
This week EYFS learned the “Gg” sound in phonics, learning how to form the letter ‘Gg’, singing ‘The water gurgles down the drain’ song and finding things that begin with ‘Gg’. We have also been practicing reading High Frequency words, which we will be using in our writing. 
In Numeracy, EYFS has been consolidating counting to 20 and more, while moving on to taking away 1 from numbers up to 5 with Nursery; taking away any amount from 10/ 15 or 20 with Reception children confident with taking away 1. Children have also been recording number sentences and reading back their number sentences. 
In our topic ‘Winter Wonderland’ we made our split pin arctic animals with moving legs. EYFS continued with fun activities linked to the story ‘The Mitten’ with Miss Holly- playing in their giant mitten made of mats and blankets, while also making mittens out of woven strips of paper.  
ART. Elmer is a great book for kindergarten children to read during our Anti-Bullying Week. It says how our differences make us great. In this story the main character, Elmer, is a patchwork elephant, not gray like all the others. He doesn’t like being different so he decides to hide his colours and blend in with the herd. As the story progresses, Elmer learns to appreciate his uniqueness and discovers he’s happy just being himself! Children made their own colorful art project about Elmer, inspired by the story. They created a beautiful patchwork design using coloured paper.
RUSSIAN (Native). On Thursday EYFS focused on sounds, playing the game «Live ABC» (“Живая азбука”). Kids also learned a lot of words that start with certain sounds. The rules of phonics help kids make connections between written letters and letter combinations and word sounds. This phonic game helps kids to become fluent readers and writers.
