New school year, same media missteps

Covering children starting school for the first time or going back after Summer break can be an exciting story opportunity for media, with much colour and movement to add to their stories. However, this coverage should not be done at the expense of the rights of children. Each year MMA looks at articles covering back to school and analyse the coverage through a child rights lens. This analysis examines how the media cover children and the issues that affect them. This matters because this coverage contributes to the public's understanding of important children's issues like education.  Let’s take a look at this year’s coverage and discuss the good, the bad and the areas for improvement.
