It is an undeniable fact that India is the fastest-growing economy in the world. In the past 20 years, the country has become home to the world’s leading manufacturing giants belonging to diverse industries. Today, the manufactured goods from India are exported the world over, and year after year, the volume is growing by leaps and bounds. The scenario in the past

Be it domestic or international markets, transporting goods was a big challenge involving so many implications and complexities. The shipment used to face incessant delays, theft incidents while taking weeks to reach their destination. There was no reliable mechanism for the tracking and tracing of containers in real-time, and also for knowing container dwell time. To meet the challenge of combatting ‘running out of stock’ scenarios, goods producers across the country used to start doing overstocking of the inventories. Such practices not only increased their expenses but also made it extremely difficult to attract investments from foreign countries.  
The Government of India’s ‘first-time’ revolutionary initiatives
Very soon, the government of India realized that due to the unavailability of smart logistics solutions for domestic and international shipment tracking, the growth of the country’s logistics industry was getting hampered drastically. Keeping in view the same, the government of India took various ‘first-time’ revolutionary initiatives to completely overhaul the container tracking and tracing system across the country. 
 All this led to the emergence of DMICDC Logistics Data Services (DLDS) – a joint venture between GOI represented by National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) and Japanese IT major NEC Corporation, with a 50:50 equity participation on 30th December 2015.
The scenario after LDB in India’s logistics sector 
 After the launching of the LDB (Logistics Data Bank) project, the entire logistics industry saw a new dawn of technological power and possibilities. Be it accessing information about container dwell time or any other aspect related to domestic or international shipment tracking, everything became a breeze. LDB intends to bring complete visibility and transparency in the Indian logistics industry, working on the latest technology such as RFID, Cloud-based system, and high-speed internet connectivity. 
 LDB has proved to be a savior for the logistics industry by streamlining the system and bringing single-window vessel visibility into the entire logistic framework. Today, LDB is functional across 25 port terminals with a capacity to handle India’s 100% container volume.
