Update 6:13 p.m. EDT Oct. 29: Barely 24 hours after barreling ashore near Cocodrie, Louisiana, the former Category 2 Hurricane Zeta has been downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone as it zooms off the mid-Atlantic coast toward the western Atlantic Ocean.

In its 5 p.m. advisory, the National Hurricane Center stated Zeta was located about 25 miles west-southwest of Cape May, New Jersey. The storm continues packing maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and is moving east-northeast at 55 mph.

The center of Zeta is forecast to emerge over the western Atlantic Thursday evening, and while some strengthening is still expected, the cyclone should be absorbed by a frontal system on Friday, the center stated.
