Macon-Bibb Commission Dec. 20, 2022

The Macon-Bibb County Commission closed out 2022 by forging a formal relationship with the Muscogee Creek Nation in time for the city's Bicentennial in 2023. Mayor Pro Tem Seth Clark said efforts to elevate the Ocmulgee Mounds to National Park status will not make it out of Congress this year, but plans are already underway to re-introduce the bill after the new Congress is sworn in after the first of the year. Commissioners denied an alcohol license renewal for the M&M Grocery on Montpelier Avenue and gave the Corner Grocery on Walnut Street another chance to comply with licensing regulations that require fresh foods if there is no fuel service provided. Multiple neighborhoods also secured final approval for new street lights as Mayor Lester Miller plans to further streamline the application process with a one-vote approval requirement. Here are the highlights from Tuesday's meeting compiled in tweets sent during the meeting, which included an executive session to discuss the alcohol licensing.
