Overview

Sembilan Malam or Nine Nights is a stage-adaptation text of excerpts from several ancient Javanese epic poems translated into English from Kawi by Thomas Hunter and then into Indonesian by Puspita Ariadevi and Ariyantri E. Tarman. R Frederick Finlayson commissioned the Indonesian translation with the permission of Dr Hunter and the original publisher, Lontar Foundation. The latter had published the excerpts in English in the book, Blossoms of Longing. Mr Finlayson selected and arranged the texts in the current form, which was intended for public performance but, for various unforeseen reasons, this has not yet occured.
