The Hunger Games has been out since last weekend, but it’s so insanely popular that it’s about to debut in China, according to Movie Metropolis. It’s not clear if the Chinese version will be a mere 90-minute version of the American version, or if it’s a longer, more elaborate version. I’ve seen some of the reviews on Chinese blogs, and they don’t sound very positive. Still, if the film does well here, it’s worth it. It’s as if a new trend is starting up: all the supposedly good movies that have been released in recent years have been Canadian or British or American. Maybe that’s just a coincidence, but I’d like to think it’s something more than that. Maybe the foreign language film niche is starting to find a place at the movies?

I saw The Sweeney a few months ago, and I liked it. It was a good thriller, but I didn’t like it as much as I had expected to. I watched an abridged version, so I’m not sure what’s actually in the original version, but I think it starts out well and then it just sort of peters out and I don’t know why. It’s always a bit annoying when someone recommends something you’ve never seen and you don’t actually end up seeing it.
