I am now running 3ds Max 2017 on my computer and still the question about where is VRAY?
I do have the answer to my own question.
You have to go to the Properties/Adj Panels/Material/Lighting settings/View.
There you will find Vray-Checked, enable it and you will see a new icon.
Now you can activate and deactivate the light effect.
Click on the word View in the list to see which one you are currently using.
That should help you.

Hi Markus,
thank you for your answer, I have some problems.
1. I would like to make a volumetric light, as far as I understand this has to be based on volumetrics. I could not find any default button, which was used in the previous version. I tried to export the scene as a VRay, but did not find any default output settings.
I even tried to go to the option:
- Properties / Settings / Lighting / Vray
but found only the options view and view volume and no vray anymore.
2. And what is the difference in your approach to my question, which I posed earlier?

But the light for my question is not the object itself, but the effect of the object and for this I cannot find the right setting.
