– It's not really an app for Windows usersI am in a situation where using MySQL isn't the best option - or maybe I do not know how to use it effectively ( a pretty new user on Linux ) so I was hoping I could use something like an RDBMS for very simple purposes.
What I would want to achieve is store the following in a table:
- The name (first) of the field - The type of the field - The length of the field
- Each item is a field in my case. For instance, the first field of the table is called 'name' and it has a type of 'text' and a length of '100'.
- For this particular case, only the name and type of the field are needed, so I do not need the length. However, if I change the name or type of this field later on, I should get a nice error when creating the table that says something like "This field could not be created, because it is longer than 100 characters"...
I am wondering what is the best way to store this?
In MySQL, I could of course use a 'varchar' with a length of '100' but I'd rather use a 'text' type. Because, if in the future I need to search this item for things like 'what's the name of this field?, it would be handy to know this.
