Rails 3.1 REST api route confusion
I'm building a REST api using Rails 3.1. I want to respond to the following url:
/api/v1/users?token=
However, when I try to create a new user, the "patch" request (via the :patch option in the url) always goes to a different controller, and the new user is not saved because the token is missing.
I have the following in my routes.rb:
resources :users do
  patch 'users', :on => :collection
end
Am I doing something wrong? Why does the :patch request end up in my users_controller?

I think you might be misunderstanding what your routes are doing.  A RESTful API would generally respond to the following:
GET /users 
Which would fetch all of the users.  So when you ask for
You will be telling your app to go to a resource (/api/v1/users) and send that request with a token.  However, you still need to specify the users collection resource in your routes:
  collection do
    patch '/users', :on => :collection
  end
This way, you still get to use the RESTful route, but also have the ability to perform a patch of a resource collection.  The above should allow you to have an endpoint that responds to both your GET and 3125841983
