Here is some overall information about our ASPIRA Library...

Our library is unique! Our collection is young and very current. We have a collection of books featuring topics and characters that represent our diverse community, including a large selection of Spanish texts. Our collection continues to grow every year thanks to a generous budget.
We have a certified School Library Media Specialist (that's me!) who has a strong background in literacy- unfortunately, this is becoming increasingly uncommon in schools across our country. Feel free to email me for book recommendations or any questions about how to support your readers at home!
Our library runs on a "flexible schedule" which recent research has deemed to be the most effective type of schedule. This means that our students may visit and check out books EVERY DAY of the year instead of once a week during a "Library Special" class. This also means that I am free to teach small reading groups, arrange for classroom visits, collaborate with teachers for projects, include families in events, and do many other activities with and for students. It also frees up the library space for WHATEVER needs to happen- meetings, 1:1 instruction, testing, book shopping, teaching, author events.... or as a safe, quiet space for anyone who needs it. My favorite thing about this is watching how people interact with the library in such different ways. If you are in the building, please stop by the library to see what's happening!
Since we are part of the Delaware Library Consortium, we have access to ALL of the books in the Delaware Library system. That means that we can all borrow books from any of the DE Public Libraries using our ASPIRA ID numbers. The books get delivered right here to school each week. The students learn how to do this on their Chromebooks each fall and can always look here on the website for a refresher. They can also ask me to show them in school. I hope you take advantage of this amazing resource!
Each year, we host authors/illustrators at ASPIRA. They do presentations about their lives as writers, sign and sell their books, and talk with students. In the last few years, we were lucky to meet Meg Medina, Frank Murphy, and Lindsey Stoddard. This year, our visitor came in October - Raul the Third! We will also meet a different author each month on a virtual platform.
