For the second time in about a month, freshman cornerback Davonte Jackson will have to sit out a game because of disciplinary reasons.
Jackson will be suspended from the Nov. 17 game against Utah State for breaking team rules, coach Todd Graham said Tuesday. Graham did not elaborate on the nature of the violation.
“It’s really not appropriate for me to talk about it,” Graham said. “This is a process. I appreciate his hard work. He’s got a bright future.”
Graham did say that Jackson can expect to play against Utah State.
Freshman defensive lineman Otaro Alaka also missed the team’s 35-17 win over UTEP due to an undisclosed discipline. Graham did not elaborate.
Senior linebacker Steve Edmond missed the game against UTEP due to a sick family member. Edmond is listed on the injury report with an illness.
Graham also mentioned junior offensive lineman Shawn Nixon missing the team’s game against Arkansas State to tend to a sick family member. Graham did not elaborate.
“We’re trying to get as healthy as we can,” Graham said. “It’s better for the kids, but it’s kind of tough with the schedule.”
The Lions have several players listed as questionable due to either undisclosed or minor injuries.
Graham also hinted that sophomore quarterback Artavis Scott could miss the next game against BYU to attend a funeral.
“He’s a good kid,” Graham said. “We’ve got to do the best we can for him.”
Senior linebacker Devin Butler also missed the game against Arkansas State.
“Devin’s been sick a little bit,” Graham said. “I’m not sure what it is. He’s going to get checked out.”
Butler will most likely be able to play against BYU, Graham said.
The Lions had three players miss last week’s game against UTEP.
Junior defensive end Jonathan Celestin missed the game due to a death in his family. Junior tight end Olamide Zaccheaus also missed the game due to a death in his family.
