Unique Index across many columns
I have this table that I would like to be indexed so that it can be searched by the user searching on just the social security number:
CREATE TABLE EmployeeID (
    EmployeeID nchar(10) not null,
    EmployeeFirstName nvarchar(50) null,
    EmployeeLastName nvarchar(50) null,
    EmployeeSocialSecurityNumber nvarchar(10) null,
    EmployeeCity nvarchar(50) null,
    EmployeeState nvarchar(15) null,
    EmployeeZipCode nvarchar(15) null,
    EmployeePrimaryPhone nvarchar(15) null,
    EmployeeNotes nvarchar(50) null,
    EmployeeStatusID int not null,
    PRIMARY KEY (EmployeeID)
)
I am trying to run this SQL to create the unique index:
CREATE UNIQUE INDEX IX_EmployeeID
ON EmployeeID(EmployeeSocialSecurityNumber, EmployeeCity, EmployeeState, EmployeeZipCode, EmployeeFirstName, EmployeeLastName)
This throws the error:
"Syntax error near 'nchar'
SQL state: 42601
Character: 1
"
I am not sure why this is occurring. I'm assuming there is a syntactical error in my SQL. Any help would be appreciated.

If you create a unique constraint on just the first 10 digits, you can't also use the other columns in the index, because the unique constraint prevents multiple records from being inserted with the same first 10 digits.
So, if you can put your unique constraint on only the first 10 characters, you can add the other columns to the index:
ON EmployeeID(EmployeeSocialSecurityNumber(10), EmployeeCity, EmployeeState, EmployeeZipCode, EmployeeFirstName, EmployeeLastName)
