History
In the 1960s, the predecessor to AutoCAD was called Sketchpad, developed by the U.S. Air Force for flight simulation. It was later purchased by Intuit, who later sold it to Corel. Corel's first release was version 1.1, released in January 1980, and version 1.5 was released in 1983.
The first public release of Autodesk's AutoCAD was version 1.0, released in December 1982.
Autodesk was originally a group within the Engineering and Drafting Group, where the first projects were to develop software for IBM mainframe computers. The group's first products were 2D drafting programs called DraftMaster and DDS. In 1983, Autodesk was created as a separate division to manage product development in support of Autodesk's growth.
Originally designed for internal use, Autodesk was first made available to the public in 1984. Later versions were licensed to both companies and academic institutions. In 1995, Autodesk was purchased by Silicon Graphics (SGI) for $585 million in cash. SGI had acquired 3D softwares.

AutoLISP
AutoLISP is an easy to use Dynamic Language Scripting Language. This language creates an interactive interface and coding environment for Autodesk's products and others. AutoLISP is capable of supporting source code from other programming languages, such as Visual Basic, C++, Java and BASIC, as well as being able to work with other AutoLISP libraries.
Visual LISP
Visual LISP is a visual development language, which was derived from AutoLISP. It was introduced with AutoCAD for Windows in 1997. It was designed to allow for the creation of customizable user interfaces.
Visual LISP uses visual programming that requires no prior programming experience and makes it easier to implement. It does not require any coding and it is created by drag-and-dropping objects and visual editors. The interface consists of a window that has an open canvas, as well as an open page window and a palette window.
AutoCAD does not support Visual LISP for the Linux platform.
