YEAR 2
We have already studied castles in a lot of depth, in Topic, and the various working roles therein. Therefore, this week we've been looking at becoming knights and the processes that would have involved a thousand years ago. We learnt about being a page and a squire, as well as a knight of the realm - they didn't just have to be superb swordsman and horse riders, but also learned scholars. In fact, we wrote our names in the style of a night using medieval templates to help guide us.    
In Maths, we looked at money (British coins and notes) and started by adding pennies (which could easily be any other currency) before moving onto pounds. Some of us even added pounds and pence using decimal points. The children enjoyed cutting out the right coins and notes and sticking them into their paper jars.  
We have recently been tentatively working our way up to writing traditional tales. We have looked at characters and the morals of our stories. This week, we planned them out using story maps. We needed titles, main characters (and supporting), a problem and how it's solved at the end, as well as a beginning and middle section. We will use the map to guide us on our writing quest!
We finally managed to design bookmarks in PSHE for our reading sessions and we drew a turtle in Art, which turned out great.
