Dear all,
This week has had some poignant highlights that I wish to share.
Let's start with the 'Meet the Head' evening, as it was a pivotal moment for the school; it really felt like we were able to come together as a school community and liaise with each other knowing we all want the best for our students. Personally, I enjoyed sharing my vision for the school and how I would like us to achieve our goals, getting to know parents I had never met and catching up with familiar faces. The informal setting was a great catalyst for conversation and I enjoyed it very much, thank you.
On Tuesday, we had Richard Peers from the British School of Football (BSF) provide an amazing exhibition day. I am glad I was able to get involved, to a certain degree, with Secondary. There was definitely a buzz around the school. I also addressed them all the following morning to gauge feedback, and it was all extremely positive.
What I loved about the day was that all age groups were involved and the atmosphere was wonderful. Throughout the lunchtime period, students took part in team-building games that required team work, concentration and communication, as well as some basic ball skills. The session was well finished off with some quick-fire football games. EIS students soaked up this great opportunity to be trained by a professional British trainer with UEFA qualifications and it was great to see.
On a further sporting note, earlier in the week I attended the Moscow Athletic Conference to include EIS in this year's calendar. There are some great tournaments and celebration days coming up throughout the year, where we can, hopefully, send groups/teams to participate in sports such as football, volleyball, badminton, basketball, cross country, athletics and so on. Some of these calendar days include Saturdays as well, which would mean there'd be a great opportunity for parents to get involved and support their children.
Around the school, there's been superb work going on, as usual. I was able to pop in to watch a double lesson from Year 6 about the Mayans. Some great mind maps and collaboration work were on display, but I very much enjoyed the 'growth mindset' of the students as much as anything - thank you Ms Aida. Another mention to Mr Marsh, (he really does love oranges!) whose Year 4 class designed orange peeling machines in Science - watch those fingers! Year 7's leadership speeches are shaping up to be something special, well done for being brave, guys. Finally, I am enjoying watching the Early Years children from my office, under the guidance of Mr Daniel, use the outdoor space to learn, grow and develop. It's especially nice as the autumnal colours are coming through the trees.
To wrap up, I just want to point out that EIS has completed a Queen Elizabeth II board to celebrate the life and times of Her Royal Highness; not because she was royalty but because of the positive impact she had on the world and her symbolism of respect, duty and diplomacy. A special thank you to Ms Waldron's Year 2 children for their personal contributions.
