H.D. Shaper is a frequency distortion algorithm with the aim of simulating overloading caused by clipping.
It defines a path that computes the distortion function and a set of parameters that control the path, ranging from low to high overload.

It can be seen that, for a value near 100%, the distortion is total. The 1% to 40% overload starts in the subharmonic range, while the distortion is different for lower overloads.
Why do I need distortion?
You will find that, after a certain amount of distortion, any audio signal will start to sound distorted.
This is due to the fact that, in distortion, the harmonics saturate, pushing the oscillation at the fundamental frequency to an extreme value.
A distortion isn’t always bad; in fact, it’s extremely useful in a lot of applications.
For example, if you have a music track with a heavy energy peak in the mid-range, you can apply a slight distortion on the entire track and, as a result, reduce the peak-to-RMS ratio.

Masterfully done!
This is a very powerful plugin, and probably one of the best plugins i've ever owned. I was honestly afraid of the demo, but i took the plunge and installed it.
But the first thing i did was turn it up to 11, cause i had to. I'm calling this my new favorite plugin of all time.
This plugin is truly, without a doubt, the best distortion plugin i've ever owned. I honestly don't know what more to say. It does what it says, and it does it in a way that i've never experienced before, which is absolutely amazing.
If you have a working knowledge of dsp, this plugin will sit comfortably in that zone. I've been using distortion to distort my audio for a few years now, and i've never had a plugin which i've come back to for over a year after that i don't have to use in any of my projects.
