At this point, it is important to note that, by extension of the Sunni view of the Khadimah (the first three caliphs, Muhammad, Ali and Hassan al-Basri), the Shia believe that the Imam Ali has to be considered the fourth rightful caliph, and that the Iraqi Caliphate, an Islamic state, should be turned into an Islamic republic.
The author of al-Jafr was originally named Umm al-Qura. According to the Shia, before the birth of Ali, his mother, Fatima, was visited by the Angel Gabriel, who told her that if she was not given the name Umm al-Qura, her son would be killed.[4] Umm al-Qura, or "the mother of the Quraysh," was a famous name and as such became the name of the book itself. The name of the book is a reference to the Islamic holy sites of Mecca and Medina. The first chapter of the book is named al-Majlis.
The book states that the first book which the prophets wrote was the Qur'an. According to this book, Prophet Muhammad, after whom al-Jafr is named, ordered Ali to prepare the Qur'an. The content of the Qur'an was dictated to Ali by the Angel Gabriel, who told him to look into the black mirror, where all future events would be seen.
