When asked, I would suggest to not use VOB from DVD's. Play them in Windows Media Player. VOB's are also not very common today for DVDs, you won't find them anywhere on the internet.
I used to say "obvious" - but with the development of DVD you can even convert your DVD files to any format you want without the DVD player using a program like VLC
Well, let me get it straight:
You would buy a brand new DVD movie, rip it to VOB's, send them to me, and I would convert them. And the end result would be a DVD movie that will play in a DVD player.
Am I right?
If you send a DVD to me, it will be ripped to VOB's - meaning that the DVD is going to be cut into pieces (not put together), so there are no commercial reasons to rip them to DVD VOB's, and they're just for personal use.
They are way too small for my needs.
In response to user464542, I can confirm that VLC successfully plays the files.
You are right on when you say that VLC plays DVD+RW's, but that's only if you have GRUBPro loaded. With GRUBPro, you just burn the DVD to a DVD+RW and the VLC player will automatically download the extra GRUBPro stuff so that it's ready to read/write DVDs.
