What are we working on now?
Padre is a Perl integrated development environment that will provide users with a text editor that is simple to use for new Perl programmers but also supports large multi-lingual and multi-technology projects.
Our primary focus is to create a peerless environment for learning Perl and creating Perl scripts, modules and distributions, with an extensible plug-in system to support the addition of related functionality and languages and to support advanced developers taking the editor anywhere they want it to go.

Padre is a text editor for writing Perl 5 code and applications. Its focus is on learning, rather than just getting things done. Because of that, Padre can be used for everything from beginning Perl programmers needing a simple, quick text editor to advanced programmers who wish to author multi-lingual and multi-platform applications. Padre is written entirely in Perl and under the GNU General Public Licence (GPL).

Padre has command-line front-ends for Vim and Emacs, which work well for people who already use those editors.
Although only one version of Padre will be distributed with the Padre distribution, several (ad-hoc) versions will be distributed that build against several different Perl versions and Perl builds. Padre Command Line for Perl 5.10

There is a test suite for each version of Padre and we distribute the test suite as a tarball at the same time that we release the binaries.
