Dear all,
Thank you very much for your support and kind words ahead of the start of the 2022/23 academic year. I may be biased but I think the 'Day of Knowledge' was the best I have seen in the 4 years (going on 5) that I have been in Moscow. The number of parents and students, the staff and overall atmosphere made it a very special day, not just for myself but for all of those who love and support this great school. Everyone was pleased by the atmosphere and wonderful sense of community. High praise, indeed.
This week we started in earnest and completed our first full week of teaching and learning. It's incredibly satisfying for me to visit an array of age groups and savour the lessons and work that is on display. I visited Year 1 Art where they produced autumnal pictures using mixed media, and Year 11 Art up at the annex where I learnt so much from Ms Fox and the students, and to Mr Roche's History class where the students made an EIS version of the Bayeux tapestry. There were many more wonderful examples - also, thank you Mr Marsh for your fascinating Science lesson on buoyancy!
The school community continues to grow and I met with a local headteacher from a Russian school where we shared ideas and thoughts about how our schools can link up. In short, to be mutually beneficial. It sounded like a very, very exciting opportunity. I look forward to seeing how we can develop this partnership. I have also touched base with CIS about sporting tournaments and we will be a part of the Moscow Athletic Conference held at Brookes where we aim to build up an extra curricular calendar that includes the British schools of Moscow; again, very exciting!
I look forward to seeing you all at the 'Meet the Head' evening on Monday at 18:00 for chat and chance to answer any questions you may have. Between myself, Mr Marsh and Mr Scholtz I think we can accomplish that. I would also like to inform you that after my chat you can go off and meet individual teachers for a spell before returning for drinks and a relaxing get-together in the hall.
I could not possibly end this newsletter entry without mentioning the death of Queen Elizabeth II - a woman who, I believe, was truly an inspiration to us all, especially for her sense of duty, honour and bravery in the face of adversity. As an Englishman, it will be strange for me to see pictures of King Charles III on stamps, money and elsewhere. Also, our national anthem shall now be, 'God Save the King'. If his majesty can follow in the footsteps of his mother, then he will serve us all well.
