Dear Parents,
The first half-term of Term 2 is almost over. As we look forward to a short half-term break next week, please take note of the following announcements:

Valentine’s Day – Monday, 14th February:

It was hearting to see our pupils arrive at school on Monday, wearing something red, pink or violet. Everyone celebrated Valentine’s Day with much enthusiasm, a tradition first recorded by the English poet Geoffrey Chaucer in a poem written in 1375, over six hundred years ago! There is no doubt that our pupils embraced the spirit of Valentine’s Day by exchanging cards to celebrate love and friendship, and the joy of having other people in their lives. Thank you to Ms Kate (TA, Year 3) and Ms Ksenia (TA, Year 5), supported by Ms Marna, Year 5 teacher, for organising interesting and fun-filled activities.

Maslenitsa:

Our school will celebrate Maslenitsa, an ancient Orthodox Christian festival, on Friday, 4th March. Pupils can look forward to eating pancakes, playing traditional games, and the burning of an effigy of Lady Maslenitsa.

Additional Public Holidays:

A letter was sent to you earlier this week, explaining how the school intends making up school days lost, due to additional public holidays announced by the government. Please note that our school intends to extend the school day to 4 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays to add an additional two lessons per week over a six-week period. These extended days are scheduled for May and June.

Calendar Adjustment:

Please be reminded that Monday, 21st and Tuesday, 22nd February are normal school days. School will close at the usual time on 22nd February and club activities will take place.

Second Half-term:

School will reopen for second half-term on Monday, 28th February.
