Night Dragon is a new cybercriminal targeted attack campaign that leverages coordinated, covert, and targeted cyberattacks involving social engineering, spearphishing, vulnerability exploits in the Windows operating system, Active Directory compromises, and remote administration tools or RATs.
Night Dragon leverages vulnerabilities in Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 to achieve entry. It uses social engineering tactics to trick users into downloading and executing malware. The malware then uses the infection process to move and hide on the compromised host system to perform the infection process on additional hosts.
Night Dragon was first discovered to be in use since November 2012 and has been active for 6 months.
The July 2012 Google Chrome update and the recently launched Mac version of Google Chrome also contain vulnerable versions of the Google Chrome browser that can be used by Night Dragon to compromise systems and steal information.

Irish photo hosting site, Flickr, quietly introduced a major change to its terms of service that could have some site visitors paying a heavy financial penalty, reports Reuters.
Flick users with accounts on Flickr in 2009 or later should notice something new about their user agreement, which now includes a section titled “User Content.”
“By uploading, you grant Flickr a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, distribute, translate, create derivative works from, incorporate into other works, and publicly perform or display any material and/or other content that you submit in connection with the Service,” the new section reads, per the Reuters report.
Flickr users can choose to opt out of this provision by contacting Flickr’s registration department.
The change indicates that the American company is now worried about Creative Commons licensing and is ready to turn its user content over to copyright holders.
The move isn’t surprising given that services like Flickr host content that is made public under the Creative Commons and the Artistic License (Creative Commons is a copyright and license consortium that also licenses the other licenses.) Creative Commons licenses are designed to make all creative works available to everyone.
“We need to get started on all this as quickly as possible to avoid problems for our users,” a Flickr spokesperson told Reuters. “This is not about protecting users from sharing, it’s about protecting Flickr from sharing.”
Photo-sharing site PhotoShelter’s new license terms of use—which the company had been working on for more than a year—went into effect on Tuesday, and a couple of weeks later the company announced that it was dropping the new terms of use from the company’s servers.
In a post to its site Wednesday, the company revealed that it had abandoned the new terms of use, to be replaced with the old ones.
The new terms were rolled out “without notice, change, or rejection” in October 2009, according to a news release. Users were offered a free one-year trial, which
