Linux:
Firstly, you need to download the Linux btest package from the project’s website: 
Extract it into a directory of your choice.
Make sure that the directory name does not start with a dot.
Run the following command to install:
Linux:
sudo./btest
Windows:
Now you can unzip and run the software on Windows:
Linux:
tar -zxvf btest.tar.gz
Windows:
unzip btest.zip
The software is then ready to use. To perform the tests, run the./btest command:

This command will drop all the incoming and outgoing IP packets and will throw an error if the received rate is lower than 1000MiB/s. For instance, with the example settings, we can perform the test using the following command:
It is recommended that you perform the UDP test first to find out which flow is the most resource-consuming in the network. To perform the UDP test, follow the next instructions:
Linux:
cd btest/
sudo./btest udp
Now, you will need to specify the maximum amount of data that can be transferred in the generated bandwidth log file with the following command:
Linux:
sudo./btest -b 10MiB udp
After running the command, go to the generated log file (output.log) and copy the last entry. Now you can find the maximum amount of data that can be transferred in the log file using the following command:
Linux:
cat output.log
The result can be found in the octets column.
Windows:
After you create the log file, you need to open a text editor to find out the maximum amount of octets. Unfortunately, the application does not generate the log file with the exact number of bytes. To calculate the maximum amount of data, we will need to use our calculator.
Go to the created log file, copy the last entry and select the number column.

BTest is a small piece of software that enables you to determine the maximum traffic that can pass through the connection points of a wired or wireless router for the purpose of identifying possible conditions in which the data flow is limited due to the network resources.
The utility enables you to perform the bandwidth test on both the TCP and UDP protocols. Since the TCP tests results do not include data on the size and usage of the data stream in the throughput log, it means that the statistic is not always reliable.
In case you need to retrieve more accurate information on the closest approximation of the performance, then it is recommended to perform UDP tests. In addition, you can specify the direction of the traffic to be generated, namely upload, download as well as the send and received packages.
It is necessary to mention that during the tests only a single core of the CPU is employed and that the bandwidth tests cannot exceed the potential of a 100% full core. At the same time, performing the tests means that you allow the application to use all the available bandwidth. Consequentially, you should keep in mind that you may not be able to use your Internet while BTest is actively measuring the bandwidth.
