More fun in the snow this week with lots and lots of snow falling…While indoors, we have played ‘The floor is lava’, and children chose to engage in various activites based on prior learning, from child initiated measuring of length, weight, shape construction, including phonics lessons taught by children to their peers. Really impressive! Our fashion conscious Faina and Petra have been designing beautiful rings and handbags out of paper for themselves and the adults, while Petra tested out her slinky which Muxian had bought her. EYFS also had lots of fun with Miss Holly making cinnamon scented salt dough Gingerbread Men. 
This week we learned the “Oo” sound in phonics, learning how to form the letter ‘Oo’, singing the ‘When it’s dark the lights go on’ song and finding things that begin with ‘Oo’. This week in Numeracy, we have begun learning about weight. Children have been busy weighing various objects using cubes in the balancing scale, while trying to put as many things as possible into the kitchen scale to reach one kilogram. Last week they visited nurse Alina to measure how tall they were, and this week we borrowed nurse Alina’s bathroom scale to measure how heavy everyone in EYFS was.They have also learned to use the vocabulary heavy/heavier/ light/lighter and the same when comparing the weight of objects.  
As part of our topic 'Celebrations', this week we focused on New Year’s Celebrations around the world, looking at videos of how people bring in the New Year in different countries. Kian drew his own map which included Bosnia, South Africa, Spain, Turkey and Russia. We did paintings using print making techniques showing fireworks displays on New Year’s Eve.
