This is a simple application that will take a Promash file and convert it to BeerXml compatible format. It was specifically designed so that additional information can be added to the recipes that is not present in Promash files.

The format used by Promash is very limited, and you have to remember most basic information like the name, the ingredients, the recipe name, the abv, etc. The BeerXML format is much more open than the Promash format and much more well defined.
BeerXML format:
The BeerXML format is compatible with several other common brewing software packages. BeerXML files can also be uploaded directly to other sites that offer recipes. The BeerXML files are pretty easy to work with once you get a hang of them.
If you convert the Rec.recipe.bbl files into BeerXML files they can be imported into the software of your choice. While you can always set your favorite beer software to take a.bbl file and extract the recipe information that is stored there there are a ton of software programs that also have an option to import the original format.
There is a bunch of information that gets stored in the BeerXML files. Each item will contain the information (except the.bbl name which is separated by ::)

Promash File Converter
It is a conversion program to convert Promash files into BeerXML files.
It is very easy to use, one command line operation is all that is necessary to generate a BeerXML file, the input file, that should contain Promash records, which contains data about the beer recipes is treated as a template. Promash is a format that can be read by different software packages which are either free or inexpensive.
It allows for a user to set a variety of properties, such as:
Beer Original Name: name of beer
Beer Description: description of the beer
Beer Recipe Number: a number that defines the order of the beer
An optional beer category: useful for grouping the recipes together, such as Single, Imported, etc.
Optional User Fields: user specific information such as name, phone number, address, website, etc.
Beer User Owner: user name of the person who invented the beer.
Beer User Name: user name of the person who is responsible for maintaining the beer.
Beer User Initials: first initial of the user name.
Hop Vendor: there are many hop vendors that use this information, such as Palisade, Pelican, Safale, etc.
Grain Vendor: the grain vendor is the company that provides the grain for the beer.
Well, I had nothing to do this morning, so I thought I'd crank up the homebrewing software a bit and see if it could keep me busy for a while. Last night's batch was the first commercially produced beer that I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. It's a golden ale that's a little bit of everything, I think.
I had a good-sized amount of candi sugar I was able to use up in the process, and that was nice. I just kind of screwed up my calculations this time, though, and I used a bit too much. That happened a lot the first time I went through this brew, and, as a result, the sweet rice tasted rather acrid. I'll learn how to do the calculations right eventually, I suppose. Anyway, I'm pretty happy with the result and will probably make a few more iterations along these lines with some modifications. I also started on the 5 gallon extract kit. I just printed out the formula and got started. The final volume is unknown at this point. My calculations came in a tad high, so I may have to make some adjustments.
